Marble floor polishing in progress

What Is Floor Polishing?

Floor polishing is a multi-step process that restores and enhances the natural shine of stone floors. Using diamond-infused pads and specialized equipment, we gradually refine the floor surface from rough to mirror-smooth.

Unlike temporary solutions like wax or topical sealers, professional polishing actually changes the physical surface of the stone, creating a durable, long-lasting shine that resists wear and traffic patterns.

At JenCho, we assess each floor individually and customize our approach based on the stone type, current condition, and your desired finish level.

The Polishing Process

A detailed approach for consistent, high-quality results.

1. Assessment

We examine your floors to identify stone type, damage level, and determine the best approach. We test a small area to confirm the expected results.

2. Deep Cleaning

Before polishing, we thoroughly clean the floor to remove dirt, debris, and any existing coatings that might interfere with the process.

3. Grinding (if needed)

For floors with significant damage, we use diamond pads to grind away the top layer. This removes deep scratches, etches, and uneven areas.

4. Progressive Polishing

We use progressively finer diamond pads to achieve the desired shine. Each pass refines the surface further until we reach the target finish level.

5. Crystallization (optional)

For an extra-deep shine on marble, we can apply a crystallization treatment that creates a harder, more reflective surface.

6. Sealing

We apply a premium impregnating sealer to protect your newly polished floors from stains and damage while maintaining their beauty.

Polishing FAQ

With proper care and maintenance, a professional polish can last 3-5 years in residential settings. High-traffic commercial areas may need touch-ups every 1-2 years.

Most natural stone floors can be polished, including marble, terrazzo, limestone, and granite. Some stones like slate have a natural matte finish and don't respond well to polishing. We'll assess your floors and recommend the best approach.

You can typically walk on polished floors within 2-4 hours after completion. We recommend waiting 24 hours before placing furniture and 48 hours for heavy items.
